Mid-eights for performing the 0-100 km/h dash would be an excellent result for any high-class Saab 9-3 competitor! A 1.9 litre turbo diesel is a refined alternative for the 9-3 range. The 5.8 litres/100 km fuel consumption is very good in any given situation - remembering that this is an average fuel consumption figure too. A total of around 11 engines are offered by
Saab Australia. Three superb gearbox options astound with their smooth and slick operation. A 5 or 6-speed manual gearbox is available for those who still enjoy the thrill of running the engine power through the gears - when they choose, of course. The other tranny is a fantastic 6-speed Sentronic automatic transmission with an inbuilt manual mode. The Sentronic gearbox allows you to shift manually through the gears or with switches on the steering wheel. Simply sensational.

The newest 93 addition requires a paragraph for itself. Saab is GM’s centre of expertise for turbocharging and clever four-wheel-drive systems. Saab therefore has its own Swedish design centre again. The new
Saab 93 Turbo X comes only in metallic black, like the high performance Saabs of old, and it also features a turbocharger boost gauge just like the original 900 Turbos. The Turbo X has an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) at the back, which, as well as transferring torque to the rear wheel with more grip, can also influence cornering lines by increasing or reducing torque to the outside rear wheel. This is just like the E-diff of a Ferrari F430. As you possibly might make out already, this one is quick! Saab has mounted its most powerful production engine to date underneath the bonnet. It is a 206 kW, 400 Nm version of its 2.8-litre, twin-scroll-turbo V6. The gearbox is a six-speed manual, and 5.7 seconds is all it takes to move the suave Swedish machine from a standstill to 100 kmh. Saab seats are known for being right up there with the best of them if not the best -when it comes to comfort. The electric front seats can come heated, 8-way adjustable and boast a memory functon. Dual climate zones also provide the utmost in setting the comfort tone throughout the interior. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes to just the right position for almost all drivers. There are premium sound sytems, and even a cooled glove box.

Safety doesn't take a back seat with a
Saab 93 either. Anti-lock brakes, adaptive driver and passenger front, torso and side curtain airbags are all standard. In ANCAP tests, the Saab 9-3 scored 13.15 out of 16 in the offset crash test, and 16 out of 16 in the side impact crash test. The passenger compartment held its shape well. The vehicle scored a further 2 points in the optional pole test. Two points were scored for advanced seat belt reminders. This excellent score earned the vehicle a 5 star rating - the highest rating possible! With the
