The luxury carmaker Jaguar Cars Limited originally was based in the town of Browns Lane in Coventry, England. Nowadays, however, Jaguar is based in Whitley in Coventry. Jaguar was founded in the year 1922 as Swallow Sidecar Company. In the year 1934, they changed their name to SS Cars Ltd. It was not until the year 1945 that they changed their name again to Jaguar, a name they have retained to this day. Since the year 1989, Jaguar has been owned by Ford. Alongside Volvo and Land Rover, Jaguar is a part of the Premier Automotive Group of Ford. Currently Jaguar is up for sale, alongside Land Rover. The main competitors of Jaguar are Porsche, Audi, BMW, Saab, Cadillac, Mercedes Benz, Acura, Maserati, and Lexus. In both the United States of America and the United Kingdom, Jaguar cars are often referred to as “Jags.”

Throughout the 1950s, Jaguar began to make its name with a series of luxury saloons and sports cars, both of which boasted excellent design schemes. The company would eventually procure the Daimler car company from the Birmingham Small Arms Company in the early 1960s. At that point, Daimler was the name employed for the most luxurious saloons that Jaguar produced.In the year 1966, Jaguar merged with the British Motor Corporation to form the British Motor Holdings. After a subsequent merger with Rover and Leyland, the company would morph in to British Leyland Motor Corporation. In the year 1975, the company was nationalized due to financial difficulties and the Ryder Report’s publication.The company was privatized by the Thatcher government in the year 1984 and was floated as a separate company on the stock market. In the late ‘80s, the Ford Motor Company offered to purchase Jaguar, and the offer was accepted. At that point, Jaguar was removed from the London Stock Exchange listings.
